NEWBORN
Newborn Experience
The joy you feel with your baby's pending arrival grows each day. Then the day is here, and we want to stop the time because it passes so quickly. Before you know it, their first year will have passed. It is long nights, short days, and crazy schedules but so many beautiful memories. Treasure the very first of the first moments with newborn portraits. These memories are worth the investment.
Newborn portrait experiences are a very intimate session. For most families, it is your first outing altogether. Every session starts with a consultation. During this time, we discuss your family, style, home, where you want to put your portraits, and vision. When you come into my home studio, I want you to be comfortable to relax and let me lead you through the portrait experience. I have props, wraps, dresses, outfits, and everything to keep the baby warm, snuggly, and happy. I am glad to incorporate a momento or special blanket as well.
Watch me grow packages are available for those families that love to capture all the precious moments of their baby's milestones.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- When should I schedule my newborn consultation?
-
Now! It is never too early (or late) for newborn portraits. It is best to have the consultation a couple of months before your baby is due. Simply because the last trimester tends to speed by faster than you will ever realize, and having a portrait plan will take one worry off of your plate. However, if time gets away from you, don't worry. We can talk today. All good relationships start with a conversation. So reach out today, and let's talk!
- How and when do I schedule my newborn portraits?
-
I will typically photograph newborns between 5 -14 days old. This is the best time to get those sleepy squishy baby portraits. However, if your baby is past this age, don't worry, we will still capture beautiful portraits. When your baby arrives or you are ready to take portraits, call, text, or email me. If I knew your baby was on the way, I will have saved a few days on my calendar for your session. And if you are just now finding me, don't worry, I can always find some extra time for you!
Most important to me is that you and your baby are healthy, happy, and ready for portraits!
- What should I wear?
-
Keep it simple. Most importantly, I want you to be comfortable. Wear something form-fitting but not too tight and with loose-fitting sleeves. Avoid tea cup sleeves if you don't love your arms. Mom jeans are just fine. We don't tend to see too much of our parents' legs.
Portraits of mom and baby where there is skin-on-skin contact are beautiful. If you want to have pictures done like this, wear a dark or cream-colored tank top. This will allow for skin-on-skin contact and provide the perfect contrast in the portrait.
Self-care is the first thing to fall off when we get busy and overtired. Don't forget to pamper yourself with a new do, a manicure, and professional makeup. And let me know how I can help you with that; I know a girl ;)
- How long does a newborn session take?
-
A typical newborn session runs from 2 - 3 hours. These sessions are baby-led. And that means if your baby needs a snack break, we take one. You can find more information on what to expect from your newborn session in my newborn guide and at your consultation.
- Is it possible for my partner & older children to be part of the portrait session?
-
Of course! I am happy to include all of your immediate family in your portrait experience. Please make sure to let me know beforehand so I can prepare. Also, since newborn sessions tend to run a little long, I suggest you arrange for the older siblings to leave the studio after their portraits. This will ensure I can have a calm and quiet studio for your new baby to be photographed.
